Mid-century Italian coastal wall plates
It was love at first sight with this set of plates. The midcentury modernist design, the vivid colours and the movement of the images are a work of art! They were made by SICA, the ‘Societa’ Italiana Ceramica Artistica’, which was founded in Nove in 1946. It split into two companies in 1969 and these plates are from the 1950s. SICA produced a wide range of wares, often mistaken or misattributed as Bitossi. Signed at the front (see photos) and marked at the bottom. Perfect condition, slightly bowl shape, they were no doubt made for decorative use on a wall.
