There is a quiet confidence in Swedish mid-century art that just grounds a room, and this soulful 50-year-old original by Orvar Palm is the perfect example. Born in 1915, Palm was a fixture of the Swedish art scene, and you can really feel that mid-century confidence in his work. A beautiful, eye catching composition.

We love this midcentury abstract piece for its quiet balance and textured geometric shapes, at once elegant, bold and timeless.

It is the work of the Italian artist Alberto Magnelli (1888-1971), a pioneering modernist and one of the key figures in the post War Concrete art movement. This piece entitled Papier collé sur fond bleu (Pasted paper on blue background) is a limited edition pochoir (stencil) dated 1955. Plate signed and dated.

We love this 1930s Swedish landscape, with its beautiful cheerful light & the open window looking over colourful roofs.

It’s the work of Albert Kruger, born in 1885. One of our favourite artists and we have featured a few of his stunning pieces in the past .

Krüger started his career as a naive painter, but eventually became a landscape painter with a controlled awareness of form in the colouristic style. His work can be found in numerous museums across Sweden including the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm.

The painting is signed and dated, (1934) with a great wooden vintage frame (gold cream and green). 63cm x 57cm.

We love coastals of all shapes and sizes: this one is a stunner with its mesmerising pastel colours.

It’s by a well known expressionist painter called Gonar Brunius (1911-2005). He exhibited across Sweden but also in Paris, Moscow. Caracas and NYC. He was awarded the Albert Engström prize in 1998: his art consists of portraits, coastal landscapes and birds in oil; as a draftsman and etcher, he produced a series of bird pictures for the National Museum of Natural History, and he illustrated bird books. Brunius is represented in various institutions including the National Museum, Modern Museum, Gävle Museum, Kalmar Art Museum, Örebro County Council, Institut Tessin in Paris and Västerås Art Association’s collections.

An abstract, muted coastal landscape with sand dunes and breaking waves. This gorgeous piece is from 1975 and it’s the work of the remarkable Milanese painter Ernesto Treccani (1920-2009), a visual artist, political activist and son of the founder of the Istituto Treccani.
