A wonderful picture with green and earthy tones which brings to mind the Shire from Lord of the Rings!
It is the work of Albert Larsen, a Danish painter born in 1885. He studied art with Viggo Johansen at the Danish academy of fine arts and travelled to Austria, Germany and Italy. He lived in Norway for four years and moved to Ystad, in Sweden, in the 1920s where he lived until his death in 1957.
Larsen exhibited widely in Sweden and Denmark, mainly landscapes and florals, but his wood cuts can be found at the Victoria & Albert Museum and the British Museum in London.
